be a friend. ask. listen. help. Program

be a friend: gives students a life application session, including:

ask: How to recognize signs and symptoms of depression and suicide

listen: How to support a friend or family member in need

help: Where to find resources at school or in the community

Each session will be presented by a trained speaker from the NAMI Southeast Minnesota speakers bureau. The session will also include a personal story from a survivor or a family member of a suicide victim. This program is offered free of charge, funding has been provided by Think Mutual Bank and the Rochester Area Foundation.

The most effective suicide prevention strategy is educating young adults to recognize the early warning signs of depression and suicidal thoughts in themselves and their friends.
